Squamish Nation reached out to us in 2022, asking us for help to develop and deliver an Indigenous youth focused employment program. They were looking at how they could engage their youth population differently from the usual in class programming, which involves attending a workshop to gain a certificate. This was an incredible opportunity to create customized Indigenous employment programming specific to the needs of the Squamish Nation youth.
The week-long Youth Employment Program provides Indigenous Youth, aged 15 – 18 with an opportunity to learn different types of soft skills; how to dress for an interview, creating resumes and participating in mock interviews. We took it one step further to connect the youth with local employers through site visits, tours and in-class presentations where the participants could engage with the businesses to see what types of employment might interest them and ask questions outside of a formal interview process.

Some of the businesses the youth met with were Alice & Brohm Ice Cream, Corsa Cycles, Sea to Sky Gondola, White Spot, Britannia Mine Museum, London Drugs and Squamish Valley Golf Course.
The students walked away with a completed resume, including a digital copy that would be held on file with the Squamish Nation Employment and Training to be updated in the future with the help of employment counsellors. This enables the participants to be set-up for long term success, be better prepared and have increased confidence when ready to begin their job search and move forward with employment endeavors as young employees entering the workforce.
These types of customized programs are a really unique way to give a real and holistic approach to job readiness and preparedness for your community. We are deeply honored that our clients choose us to use our creativity to develop and deliver meaningful programs that are a true fit for their audiences and needs.
